Board of Directors

Jeffrey S. Williams, President and CEO, Accuri Cytometers, Inc. Most recently, he had been President and CEO of HandyLab, Inc., Ann Arbor-based clinical diagnostic company, since 2004. At HandyLab, Mr. Williams led the growth and venture financing of the company, ultimately resulting in a sale to Becton, Dickinson & Company for $275 million in November 2009. He was previously President and CEO of Genomic Solutions Inc., an Ann Arbor-based life science products company he co-founded in 1997. Mr. Williams led Genomic Solutions through a period of rapid growth culminating in an IPO on NASDAQ in 2000 and merger with Harvard Biosciences, Inc. in late 2002. After the merger, he remained with Genomic Solutions as its President and joined the Harvard Biosciences Board of Directors. Prior to Genomic Solutions, Mr. Williams held various executive and management level positions in several bioscience companies, including IRIS and Boehringer Mannheim.

Mr. Williams received a BS degree summa cum laude from Alma College and an MBA with high distinction from the University of Michigan.

Daniel J. Calvo, President and CEO of Oncimmune, LLC, a cancer diagnostics company. Prior to this role, he was President and CEO, Assay Designs, Inc., which was acquired by Enzo Biochem and before that CEO of Cellomics, Inc., the leader in the High Content Screening market, which was acquired by Fisher Scientific International, Dan has more than 25 years experience in life and health sciences. Prior to these positions, Dan was VP, Worldwide Sales and Service at PerkinElmer Life and Analytical Sciences, a leading global provider of instruments, reagents, software and services for the life sciences, drug discovery and diagnostics markets. In his role at Perkin Elmer, Dan led the integration and expansion of PerkinElmer's life science business, growing from $200 million to $500 million. Dan was Senior VP, Global Sales and Marketing for NEN Life Sciences, where he drove a significant turnaround of the company prior to the acquisition by PerkinElmer. He spent more than 15 years at DuPont in various sales, marketing and operational assignments in their Medical Products business. Dan also serves as Chairman of the board of directors for Optra Systems, an India-based imaging software company, as well as being a member of the board of directors for Spectra Analysis.

Dan received an AB degree in biochemistry from Princeton University, an MHS in Environmental Health Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University and an MBA in Business Administration from Bellarmine College.

George W. Dunbar, Board Chairman of Accuri Cytometers, Chairman of Aastrom Biosciences and Venture Partner at Arboretum Ventures. George has more than thirty years of experience in the healthcare field, including the biotech, pharmaceutical, diagnostic and device sectors. During this period, he spent more than fifteen years as a chief executive officer of established and early-stage life sciences companies. Most recently George was the Chief Executive Officer of Aastrom Biosciences, Quantum Dot Corporation (acquired by Invitrogen), Targesome and Epic Therapeutics (acquired by Baxter Healthcare). Prior to that, he served at various times as Chief Executive Officer of Cytotherapeutics, Stem Cells, Inc. and Metra Biosystems, and in senior management positions with the Ares-Serono Group and Amersham International, now part of GE Healthcare.

George received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from Auburn University. He currently serves on the MBA Advisory Board of the Auburn University College of Business.

Tim Petersen, Managing Director, Arboretum Ventures, specializes in investments in medical device, equipment, and healthcare information technology companies, leveraging his broad business background working in and with entrepreneurial firms. Tim has been a member of the board of directors of a number of Arboretum portfolio companies, including Accuri Cytometers, Advanced ICU Care, Asterand (public), CerviLenz and HealthMedia (acquired by Johnson & Johnson).

Tim's career has focused on creating, growing, and financing entrepreneurial companies. Before joining Arboretum in 2002, Tim was the Managing Director of the Zell Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies at the University of Michigan, leading the creation and rapid growth of the Institute's programs. He also directed the Wolverine Venture Fund (WVF), the Institute's venture capital fund that includes the active participation of Michigan's MBA students. Previously, Tim spent nine years at the economic consulting firm Industrial Economics, Inc., becoming a member of the firm's senior staff in 1991. Earlier in his career, Tim was also a manager in the investment banking practice at Plante & Moran.

Tim is involved in a number of community and educational efforts in the entrepreneurial arena. He is currently the Alumni Fund Manager for the Wolverine Venture Fund and is a member of the board of directors of the Michigan Venture Capital Association. Tim earned a BA in Economics from Williams College, a MS in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and an MBA from the University of Michigan.

Peter K. Shagory, Partner, Baird Venture Partners in Chicago oversees the firm’s healthcare and life sciences investment effort. Prior to joining Baird Venture Partners in 2004, he spent five years at Vector Fund Management, a life-sciences venture capital firm, investing broadly across the medical device and biotechnology fields. Prior to Vector, he spent over six years in corporate finance, mergers & acquisitions and merchant banking at JP Morgan & Co. and Banc One Capital Corporation. Pete is a Board Director of Accuri Cytometers, Arbor Surgical Technologies and CoAxia, Inc. and oversees BVP's investments in Aptus Endosystems, and Celleration, Inc. He is a former Director of PharMEDium Healthcare Corporation and NimbleGen Systems. Pete is the founding Chair of AdvaMed’s National Venture Capital Advisory Board and also serves on the Boards of the Mid-America Healthcare Investors Network (MHIN) and the Children's Memorial Hospital Foundation.

He received his undergraduate degree in Business Administration and Finance from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and his MBA from the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth.

Harry W. Wilcox, Chief Financial Officer and Partner, Flagship Ventures joined in 2006, bringing a rich set of experiences and expertise in financial management, operations, fund management and strategy. His career spans 28 years and has involved many different roles and functions including Controller, CFO, Sr. VP BD and CEO. He has also served on several Boards of Directors. In addition to his corporate experience, Harry was previously CFO of two venture capital firms, Highland Capital Partners where he was the founding CFO and General Partner, and prior to that, Charles River Ventures.

During the last several years Harry has led an active consulting practice which included roles as interim CEO of two biotech companies; Thrasos Therapeutics and Biostrum. Prior to this, Harry was Executive Vice President, Chief of Finance and Corporate Development of Pyrosequencing, a publicly-held biotech company. Earlier, he had been the President and Chief Executive Officer of Cambridge NeuroScience, Inc. until its sale to CeNeS Pharmaceuticals, and before that Sr. VP Business Development and CFO of Cellcor.

As CFO and Partner at Flagship Ventures, Harry manages all financial operations and LP relations/fundraising. He also serves as a member of the investment team and plays a role as board member or advisor to select portfolio companies. Currently Harry also serves as a member of the board at Seahorse Biosystems and Celexion

Robert Weisskoff, Ph.D., Partner, Fidelity Biosciences, has more than twenty years experience in the bioscience industry. Prior to joining Fidelity in 2004, he held various senior roles in R&D and Business Development at both pharmaceutical and medical device companies. In his academic career, Dr. Weisskoff was Associate Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School, on the faculty of the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences Technology (HST) Program, and performed research at Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was Associate Director of the MGH-NMR Center.

Dr. Weisskoff holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, an MBA from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree from Harvard University. Dr. Weisskoff is an inventor on 5 US patents and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Acorn, Bioconnect, Intranasal Therapeutics, Inc., Tetraphase, Topaz, Transave, ViewRay, and EnVivo Pharmaceuticals.

Walt Young has focused on entrepreneurial start-ups for the past seven years, leading and assisting over forty entities to raise over $45 million in capital. He is Chair of Eagle River Homes and Weathershield, on the board of GuidePoint Systems, nanocerox and Zeta Communities as well as a director of NRG Energy (NYSE: NRG). Prior to his focus on start-ups Walt held senior positions for thirty-six years at BF Goodrich, The Budd Company, The Henley Group and Champion Enterprises. During the thirty-six years with these four public entities he completed twenty-three turnarounds and over seventy-five mergers and acquisitions. As Chair and CEO of Champion Enterprises, Walt was recognized by the Harvard Business School as one of the top 19 business leaders of the 1990s.

Walt received his BA in History and Economics from Muskingum University, his MBA from the Pennsylvania State University and an honorary doctorate in Public Service from Muskingum University. In addition to his corporate responsibilities he serves as a director of Muskingum University and Vice Chair of Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan.
